It was 7 year ago. It was early fall, right about where we are at now, where it can go from hot and humid to freezing in a couple of breezes. It was a Saturday morning and my mother, grandmother, brand new daughter, and I headed down town to the Farmer's Market. My grandmother loved the Farmer's Market. And I was so excited to go and spend time with my favorite ladies and take some black and white photos downtown with my film camera. This was before Photography by Kait existed and I wasn't really taking any portraits, only art still life photos. But near the end of the trip, before heading back to the car, we all decided we needed to take a break. My grandmother sat down and I handed her my little 2 month old and while they enjoyed each others company, I took this photo. I am so, so glad I took this photo.
Just shy of two years later my grandmother passed away after a battle with leukemia. She was an amazing, strong, funny, extremely loving person and I am so glad to have had her as my grandmother.
In 2010 I hear about the Light The Night walk hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (If you would like to make a donation to the cause, you can do so here http://pages.lightthenight.org/wi/Capital14/photographybykait). It was a charity walk to help show support and raise money for research for finding a cure for blood cancers. And since then I have participated in the event whenever able. It is a beautiful reminder, tribute, and night of hope for those still struggling.
This year I was trying to find a way to help again and with the upcoming Fall portrait season upon us, I decided now was the time. The Light the Night walk is in one week, September 19th at Warner Park. For the next week, I'll be offering a 10% donation for every online pre-booked 2014 photography session deposit. Plus, for helping me to support this wonderful cause, you will receive 10% off your session as my sincere thank you.
Photos like this are why I do what I do. Because even small, quiet moments can someday mean more than we could ever know.
