There are no words to describe this amazing wedding. Their family and friends were amazing. The scenery was gorgeous. And the couple... Seriously. No Words. But the good thing is I have heard it said that a picture is worth much more than a word and those I have plenty of to tell their beautiful wedding story.
Lots of love to you guys and congratulations on marrying your soulmate,
Kait
As a wedding photographer I have attended a lot of weddings. A LOT. And each wedding is perfect and amazing in its own way. But every once in a while a wedding comes a long that's just a little extra special. Like this wedding I photographed in Chicago, Illinois last weekend. It wasn't because of the gorgeous décor (though it was gorgeous). It wasn't because of the perfect spring weather, though it was really really nice. It was extra special because of this girl.
Yes, that's me and my friend Britt in banana suits. The other photo is much better but the bananas better illustrate our friendship.
See, I met this girl almost 10 years ago. I had just started college and was floundering in the making new friends away at college scene when the one person whom I was able to work the courage up to talk to invited me to eat with one of her friends and their roommate, Britt. One month later she was rescuing me when I locked myself out of my dorm at midnight. Because that is the kind of lovely person she is, she takes the call of a girl she's just become friends with at midnight. We both only lasted one year at that college but every penny I am still paying back in student loan is worth getting to meet her.
Since then we have both lived in different states but that has not stopped us from finding time to visit and stay up to date in each other's stories. When Pete entered Britt's story I knew he was only going to make it better. She talked so highly of him and the first opportunity I had to meet him I was really excited. He spent the whole brunch cracking jokes and trying to teach my oldest daughter algebra. From that moment I knew he was just the best fit for Britt. His heart is big and the way he has already been there for her, through sickness and health, through better and worse, through elation and heartbreak, he is simply the perfect, goofy fit to both be her rock and make her laugh.
So without further ado (and so I stop tearing up while I am trying to type) I give you Mr. and Mrs. Juodka! Their wedding day was beautiful, drama free, and everything that the two of them deserved to have the begin their lives together. Love you both!

Thank you everyone for your patience as we have prepared for our little guy and as we welcomed him home! It is greatly appreciated!
I promised on my Facebook Page to share the little "mini" session I did with my kiddos while doing test shots for the Cozy for Fall Limited edition sessions next week. For those of you who are going to be participating, this is what you have to look forward to. For those of you who see this and want to get in on the action, I have a couple of last minute spots still open on Friday and Sunday, just shoot me a message and I'll get you in. More information on those is listed at the bottom of the post. The location is in Arena, just between Mazomanie and Spring Green and it is seriously just awesome. Remember with every booked session a $25 donation will be made to the American Family Children's Hospital Child Life program. I'll be posting more about them this week but for now if you want to read up on what they are about and why I think they are so great, check out their website here. :)
Without further ado, I give you my kiddos...
I hope you enjoyed this little peek! We will have baby number four to add to the pack very soon!! I know that once he arrives there will be a ton of photos of him for a while so it was really nice to be able to take a moment with each of my older ones before he arrives and life gets too crazy to grab their milestones. <3
If you are looking to get some updated shots of your little ones too, remember there are a few slots still open for the Limited Edition sessions at this gorgeous location. You can see all the details just a little further down on this post. I also have spots open throughout the month of October for full sessions, perfect for peak Fall foliage without freezing! Just head on over to my contact page and let me know how I can help. I look forward to hearing from you!

If you are from the Madison area you have certainly heard of Wollersheim Winery. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the Sauk Prairie area where it is located. Even more fortunate to be able to personally know the awesome family who run this local landmark. In fact the daughter and son in law of the Coquards have been my friends for over a decade and I have gotten the absolute pleasure of photographing their ADORABLE son. Well on August 14th, they have grown even more, as the winery expanded, adding an incredible distillery to their legacy. I just had to stop down on opening day and, of course, just had to bring my camera. The new building is stunning and their creativity with their new product is beyond impressive. If you are in the area, you really just have to see it in person. But until you get a chance to do so, here are the photographs I took during my visit. But seriously, go there. It is so beautiful and they have events throughout the year so scoot over to their page at http://www.wollersheim.com now and plan your visit!

I look forward to hearing from you and planning your family's fall session!
So as you probably know my family is expecting a beautiful new little one this November. As the ultrasound approached, I decided that I needed an awesome way to announce whether we'd be getting another girl or boy. And since our kiddos are so, so excited it was obvious it needed to be them that made the announcement.
Now, anyone who has ever met our kids knows that they all have very distinct personalities. This is not any more obvious than when it comes to portraits. So this experience is also a great lesson on planning your session to your children and family's unique needs. Our oldest tends to be some what nervous about photos, causing her normally gorgeous smile to seem forced or her being off the wall expressive. The middle one is happy about photos and can be very photogenic, but only on her terms. And the little one will sit and smile like a champ for just as long as I need and then he's off like a flash so I have to be quick.
I decided to plan the session with my oldest's beautiful, crazy energy in mind. Smash cakes are one of my favorite sessions to do because, 1) they are always so unique, 2) they are fun, 3) I always leave smelling like frosting. That was the direction I took because I kept picturing the awesome expressions she would give me. She didn't disappoint. Plus I knew the cake would keep my rambunctious 3 year old entertained and would totally make my 2 year old's morning.
So not only will you soon get to see the fun, frosting filled results this is also a good message to all of my families out there who have worried about how their children would behave for their session. Don't stress. Every child is different and that's all part of the job. Even as a photographer with kids who get photographed weekly at least I know that I have to use strategy to photograph each in the way that is best for each of their perfect, unique personalities.
So without any further ado, I give you our reveal!
Credit to my mom for another awesome smash cake. She's the best!
A couple of quick warm ups before they dig in. And then, drum roll...
IT'S A BOY!!!
The ultrasound confirmation was really just a formality since Daddy had insisted since day 1 that it would be a boy.
He's 4 for 4 on guessing. I'll never hear the end of it.
Now, let the real cake smashing begin!
I wanted to get a couple of close ups of each baby too.
See, told you she delivered.
Nice duck face buddy.
And the aftermath.
So there you have it! We are so excited to have a new handsome man joining our family. Hope you enjoyed the photos! I've got to say the whole thing was a ton of fun.
And as always if you are in need of a gender reveal, smash cake, or really any kind of kiddo session, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help you out!
So excited to announce that Photography by Kait is expecting to grow by another little photographer!
I couldn't think of a better way to share the news than with photos of my current cuties.
They are super excited. :)
Now I did this session, alone, with babies. And since I did I had to share some of the behind the scenes.
First, some of Ellie's other ideas for her portion of the session. She's a ham.
Second, Max all together not wanting to participate. Of course.
Basstian getting distracted and then helping me clean up. So like him.
And finally, what it took for me to photograph myself. So thankful for all who have taught me my mad photography skills because photographing yourself with a DSLR with 2 toddlers running 3 feet away is surprisingly challenging. Also, note my cat hiding under the bush in the corner. Laughing at me in her silent cat way no doubt.
Check back in about 6 months to see some squishy new baby photos!

I absolutely love my beautiful, rambunctious little ones.
The only problem is that their wonderful characteristic spunk can make photo sessions a bit of a challenge.
Fortunately, natural and in the moment is my style and they totally rocked it!
I'm so excited to share with you my adorable, goofy, smiley, wonderful children. :)

So I'll admit, I'm a little biased on this wedding. It was family and all.
Was SO fortunate to be the photographer for my younger brother in law and his beautiful new bride!
Just loved the bright colors and the wedding party was so entertaining. :)
And I managed to get away with being sappy and crying only a couple of times while going back through the images. <3

Let me know if this sounds familiar.
You feel stressed. The house is a mess. The kids are having a tantrum day (which is difficult whether it be one or many or even just an adult). A new vehicle expense has come in. You find yourself never having time for you or your friends. Everything seems to be piling all up in one day. You're frustrated and you don't know what you are going to do.
If you are like me you've had these days before. Probably more than once. Maybe even once a week. So what do you do? I can tell you what I would do. Run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to put out fires. I know, not the best plan but it's real life. When you are a full time mom/wife/business owner/homemaker, life can get crazy and it's easy to get caught up in it. What can be hard is slowing down when life feels like it is going a million miles an hour.
Which is why I am starting something new. Why I'm Thankful Wednesday. One day in the middle of the hectic week to stop and take notice of everything I am thankful for, big and small.
Because having a messy house means you have a safe place to sleep.
Pouty babies are not always pouty. Usually they are beautiful, snuggly, perfect bundles of love. Pouty significant others can be too. ;)
Vehicle expenses mean you are blessed enough to have a vehicle.
Busy schedules mean a full life and knowing you have friends who care for you even when you are busy.
Instead of spending one day a week stressing out about life, I'm designating one just for thinking of everything as a blessing. And I think doing so is so important that I am sharing that with you. One day a week of change can start an every day habit of happier living. And if this once a week post can inspire just one person, they can spread that happiness into the world too.
So how does one celebrate Why I'm Thankful Wednesday? It's easy. Just take a moment when you feel frustrated to find the silver lining or when you are happy to enjoy it. Easy. If you want you can even keep a special journal of these moments to help you through other stressful days of the week. This is how mine would look today.
1) Thankful for my daughter's idea to include monkey's in our Valentine's decor. They are so her.
2) Thankful I only have 5 toes. Because I would have broken that 6th one so hard today. And about a million other times before.
3) Thankful my husband's sister is as silly as I am and I can be myself when I talk to her. Even though my schedule can prevent us from getting together a lot, our ridiculous conversations always make my day.
I'll have more as the day goes on but you get the idea. :) Just take one day once a week and train your perspective on the positive. You'll be amazed what a difference one positive thought can make.
Now, to help you start your Why I'm Thankful Wednesday, I'll share with you our monkey inspired Valentine's decorations. Thanks to my Valentine's Pinterest board for the inspiration!
Heart chains, family hand print hearts, and love monkeys! Oh my!
I hope this can inspire at least one person to have a better day today.
I'd love to hear your "Why I'm Thankful Wednesday" story in the comments below!
Have a wonderful day!
<3<3<3 February is here! Yay! <3<3<3
As a kid my favorite holiday was Valentine's Day. I know that seems weird because it seems like every kids favorite is the one where they get the most new toys. And trust me, birthday and Christmas were high up on my list of favorite days. But there was something so different about Valentine's Day. The pink and red glitter covered crafts. Peeling apart the adorable paper lace heart shaped doilies. The little box of chocolates my parents would surprise my brother and me with that morning. Cards from our Granny that actually came in the mail! (Hey, mail is exciting when you are little!)
But I think my favorite thing of all was the Valentines themselves. Making them. "Addressing" them. Passing them out with little treats at school. And then getting to sort through all that appeared in my little mailbox. My perfectly crafted, glittered and glued mailbox. And even though I know to many it is just a commercial holiday, I still couldn't help but feel so loved as I went through them all.
And now I have a little one in school. So of course I am THRILLED because I get to pass that love on to her. To teach her why it is so amazing. I am fortunate enough to have a little girl very much like me. She is a rose colored glasses, glass half full, silver lining kind of gal. It's not hard to me to teach her because she know how important it is to remind people they are loved. She is the master of random acts of kindness and knowing when you need a hug. She was MADE for this Valentine's Day thing.
This year we ended up just buying cards, because she is super into Angry Birds right now and I found a cute set at the store. But I am sure she will find a way to make them her own.
But last year I decided to get a little crafty. And in case any of you out there had thought about getting a little crafty too, I figured I would share with you what we did so you can give it a shot too. It was a blast.
CRAYON HEARTS!
These are awesome for a number of reasons.
1} SO EASY
2} If you are like me you have the supplies for them sitting around the house already.
3} Good activity for kids to help with.
4} The kids LOVE them.
5} SO. EASY.
First things first. To make these you will need an oven, a muffin pan (silicone hearts work best), a bunch of crayons. Boom, simple, right?
You'll want to preheat the oven to 230 degrees (or as low as you can make it near there).
Then you want to take your crayons and peel and break them into small pieces. Or if you are like me it is a perfect usage of all of those crayons that you have laying around that have already been demolished by children who are not gentle with their art supplies. Either way works.
The smaller the pieces the better they melt and mix and the smoother the hearts will be.
Use can use a knife too if they aren't breaking well enough but make sure you are super careful and don't let the kids do that part.
Crayons roll. Knives are sharp. 'Nough said.
Next you take the crayon bits and add a single layer of crayon across the bottom. Enough to fully cover but not so thick to prevent good melting. You can mix colors how ever you want. I'm a picky art person so I did warm colors and cool colors and then mixed white in with both. Added a cool pop of contrast, especially in the darker cool colors. Nerd rant done. You can do rainbow, all reds and pinks, puice and fuschia, whatever your heart desires. I won't judge.
Then pop those bad boys in the oven for about 15 minutes and let them melt. When I did it we had a mix of big and little crayons so it took a little longer than normal, just check on them periodically in the first batch as each oven is different to find your ideal time/temp combo.
(Don't they look super cool melty?)
Let them cool, pop them out, and you are done! Yay! Easy right? We then just put them in a little pack with some gummies and cards. But there are all kinds of cute homemade cards you can use with these. Which brings me to part two. Pinterest! As I planned this I decided rather than leaving you to your own to find the cards, I would make it easy and put together a board of fun crafts, cards, treats, etc for Valentine's Day! There is a wide range in there, from baby and toddler crafts, printables if you aren't the getting messy type, cute gifts for the SO, family, and coworkers, and of course tons of school age ideas. The board is here, https://www.pinterest.com/photobykait/adorable-valentines-3/.
I hope you have fun making this! If you do, I'd love to hear how it went. What colors you picked, if you found a good trick to cleaning the pan out after. Mine was extra sticky. What card you included. Let's share the momma fun!
And if you happen to be wanting to include some cute little Valentine photos with your cards I still have some openings for Valentine minis. Just head here to my contact page and let me know ASAP so we can get them back to you in time for the holiday.
Happy crafting!

Ashley and Rob,
As I sat down today to finish your sneak peek, I'll be honest, I didn't realize what a task it would be.
The problem was I tried to go through the whole wedding and pick a few from throughout the day like I typically do. But I got stuck on your first look. For about an hour. At some point it was clear there would be no productivity until it was properly covered. So here for you, in all of it's glory, your first look. All in black and white because it really showcased the emotion you two showed. (In fact, there may have been some tearing up as I edited. Just a little.) There have been many beautiful opportunities for first looks in my time. But between you two and then adding in the ridiculously adorable Derek, I have never seen one quite like yours. :)
Hope you love them all!

Taking a break from the normal portrait session previews, I am sharing a photo of me today. Don't worry, we will get back to beautiful brides and adorable little ones very shortly. This isn't something I do often but I wanted to share this photo of me that my husband took while waiting for the ceremony to start at Saturday's wedding. I'm sharing it because it is the perfect example of what I always talk about with in the moment photos. I'm not posing, I'm not smiling, I'm unaware he's taking my picture. When I first saw it I wasn't sure if I liked it.
But I have to imagine that this is a good example of how my husband sees me everyday. Between conversations. Between smiles. This is me. And he thought it was photo worthy. I got to thinking of all of the not so portraity portraits I have taken of him. Ones I know the kids and I will love forever. I thought of the portraits I see of old family members in albums from before I was born. How the best ones are always the ones where they weren't smiling straight at the camera, but were captured naturally, mid-living. I thought of all the times someone has expressed to me the importance of a photo I have taken because it was one of the last in the subject's lifetime. It made me think about how blessed I've been to be able to be there for those families and deliver those once in a lifetime moments to them.
So when we do sessions and get a behind the scenes shot that doesn't have time to be fussed with, please do not worry that your hair isn't just so or your smile isn't just right. Because those who love you think you are beautiful in every moment, every day, not just the picture perfect ones. Just as you love them. Every moment is worth celebrating in it's own beautiful, natural, imperfect way.
Had so much fun at my first real Fall session for the year!
Happy Birthday again to this absolutely adorable little guy!

It was 7 year ago. It was early fall, right about where we are at now, where it can go from hot and humid to freezing in a couple of breezes. It was a Saturday morning and my mother, grandmother, brand new daughter, and I headed down town to the Farmer's Market. My grandmother loved the Farmer's Market. And I was so excited to go and spend time with my favorite ladies and take some black and white photos downtown with my film camera. This was before Photography by Kait existed and I wasn't really taking any portraits, only art still life photos. But near the end of the trip, before heading back to the car, we all decided we needed to take a break. My grandmother sat down and I handed her my little 2 month old and while they enjoyed each others company, I took this photo. I am so, so glad I took this photo.
Just shy of two years later my grandmother passed away after a battle with leukemia. She was an amazing, strong, funny, extremely loving person and I am so glad to have had her as my grandmother.
In 2010 I hear about the Light The Night walk hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (If you would like to make a donation to the cause, you can do so here http://pages.lightthenight.org/wi/Capital14/photographybykait). It was a charity walk to help show support and raise money for research for finding a cure for blood cancers. And since then I have participated in the event whenever able. It is a beautiful reminder, tribute, and night of hope for those still struggling.
This year I was trying to find a way to help again and with the upcoming Fall portrait season upon us, I decided now was the time. The Light the Night walk is in one week, September 19th at Warner Park. For the next week, I'll be offering a 10% donation for every online pre-booked 2014 photography session deposit. Plus, for helping me to support this wonderful cause, you will receive 10% off your session as my sincere thank you.
Photos like this are why I do what I do. Because even small, quiet moments can someday mean more than we could ever know.

Story of these photos:
This momma is so organized. I get photo idea boards before every session. She has clothes laid out. She has props.
She's got this photo thing down.
Only this time, the little guy is two and teething. And as many of you moms out there know that's a dangerous combo. So he didn't want to do the wonderful things Mom had laid out for the session. And I could tell she was a little concerned. I told her not to worry, that my specialty is "in the moment" photography for a reason. Because my own kids don't hold still for posed shots and those crazy wild playing shots are usually the best from the session anyway.
I told her we would get photos this time around like she's never gotten before. And I have to say looking at the finished product, photographing this adorable family has only gotten more and more fun over the last two years!
Thanks again for having me back you guys, those boys are just too much fun!

Dear Baby Gus,
When we started your session, your mommy and I were chatting. (We tend to do that a lot when we are together. I will apologize now because you will soon learn that Miss Kait is very talkative.) She asked me about a recent surprise engagement session I had done and if it was one of my favorites. I said I could totally photograph one every day, so definitely top ten. Then she asked "Top five?"
That made me think, because I get to do a lot of amazing sessions. Before I could answer, you had started eating dandelion fluff and the subject got changed, but I thought about it more later and decided that session may very well be top 5. More importantly, I also decided that this one, with you and your mommy & daddy and the sunset and the grape vines, definitely was.
And I can't wait to fill another top five slot when you turn one. :)
Je t'aime mon petit chou!
Kait

Sarah and Peter's wedding was absolutely amazing. Gorgeous. Springy.
Their ceremony at First Unitarian Society in Madison was so beautiful. And the natural light there is to die for! (Sorry, being a photographer I just had to say it.) Allen Centennial Gardens made a stunning backdrop for their group photos. And of course the Memorial Union is one of my favorite places to shoot in Madison in general.
Thank you to you both for choosing me to be your photographer. It was an honor to be your photographer!

Congratulations Andy and Amanda!
This weekend I got the opportunity to photograph something so fun and exciting and amazing! Andy contacted me saying that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend of 10 years with a surprise engagement at the Capitol. So on Saturday morning, I found myself waiting (not so) very patiently with their families in the rotunda for the text from our inside gal that the couple were heading inside. The proposal was adorable and sweet, her reaction was so genuine, and the family was so happy that they were finally getting married!

The time has come for another awesome vendor to hit the spotlight! This time it is a gorgeous country club Lake Windsor in Windsor, WI. Here is what Jennifer at Lake Windsor shared with me:
Company Name: Lake Windsor Golf Club
Contact Person or owners: Jennifer Anderson, General Manager
Phone: 608-846-4711 x0
Website: www.lakewindsor.com
Year opened: 1964
Why Lake Windsor is AWESOME:
Lake Windsor Golf Club is an award winning banquet facility that accommodates 4 to 400 guests, overlooking their championship golf course!
#1 Piece of Advice for Planning Brides:
What makes Lake Windsor different from other venues? Booking a vendor you feel comfortable with from the start, and allowing them to share their expertise with you to plan the perfect event is a recipe for success!
This is a really nice banquet facility and has a really beautiful outdoor ceremony area as well. Plus it is built in pre-wedding pass the time fun with the gold course right there! If you are still looking for a venue in the DeForest/Windsor area, give Jennifer a call and I'm sure she would be happy to help you figure out your wedding plans.
I hear a lot from brides that they are overwhelmed with the process of finding good vendors. That is why I have been using a list of recommended local vedors to share with brides to help them at least have a starting point. But I really wanted it to be even more helpful so that list is now going to be so much more, as it is getting expanded from a list to a full on advice article. From the vendors on my list I am getting all kinds of great helpful advice for brides in their areas of expertise. While I work on actually getting all these added to my e-magazine (which you receive for FREE when you sign up for my newsletter) I want to share some of them with you via my blog. So here is vendor #1, Captured Memories Photobooths. I have mentioned them before but here is a little more information straight from the owner, Paul Dorow!
Company Name: Captured Memories Photo Booth
Contact Person or owners: Paul Dorow
Phone:(608)279-7544
Website:CAMPEM.COM
Year opened:2010
We get it! I will elaborate a little but the best thing I can say is we get it. We are a Photo Booth Rental company who offers superior quality rental packages at affordable prices. When you hire a photographer you are hiring and artist, same goes for food, music and florist, how about the photo booth? Nope, you are hiring a company who gets the job done right and can make it right for you. That?s what we do!
#1 Question Brides Ask:#1 question we get is "does your great online offer apply to our date" the answer is always yes, haha.
#1 Piece of Advice for Brides: The best advice I could give is ask around, we get more rentals from referrals from past customers than any of our current marketing. We make sure every single customer we have is happy when we are done.
So if you are looking for a photobooth, go check out Paul's stuff with Captured Memories. And if you are still looking for a different kind of vendor, fear not! More vendor comments are coming in every day so just keep checking back in.

Mini session with a fun family!
So super late to the game, I wanted to post the information on the Experience Salon in Madison that I promised you! I asked the beautiful Ms. Kelly to give me some information about her and her business and this is what she let me know:
How long have you been in business/been doing hair dressing?
The salon has been open three years this October. I have been a hairdresser for 15 years, and a National Educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems for almost 6. As a National Educator for JPMS, I receive training and assessments at least twice a year on the latest techniques in the industry. Traveling to teach other hairdressers, and presenting at industry shows keeps you on your toes, and you strive to challenge yourself. I am constantly honing my skills, which is reflected when I am behind the chair at work.
What is your favorite thing about having your business?
My favorite thing about my business is that it gives me the chance to help guests feel confident in themselves. I would like each person to leave with a smile on their face, and with a positive outlook on the day. A good hair day makes all the difference! I truly believe that one of the strongest skills required to be a hairdresser is the skill of LISTENING. I've heard many people complain that they just didn't feel that their needs and desires were really heard and addressed by their hairdresser. Guests at The Experience can count on being heard, and leaving not only with a great look--but with the tools and knowledge of how to maintain it at home.
Remember, if you book with The Experience Salon and spend $25 or more, you get 20% off your next photo session with Photography by Kait (or 25% off a gift certificate for a session for someone else if you start your holiday shopping early). This offer will be good through November 16th.
To contact Kelly and find out more about The Experience Salon, please visit experiencesalon.net or give Kelly a call at 608-333-3474 to find out availability. She books up quick close the holidays so make sure to call right away. She's really that awesome.

So the holidays are coming up. There, I said it. I know it is early and typically I am one for not rushing into holiday preperations but I had to make an exception for this. This year, Photography by Kait will be holding a fundraiser to benefit the American Family Children's Hospital. For those who don't know much about the hospital, let me just tell you, they are awesome. For those of you who do have experience with the hospital, you know why. Above and beyond the amazing care they give the children, I love how they run the hopsital in a child friendly way. Specifically, I love the Child Life Program they have there. It provides toys and learning materials to the patients and their families to help them to be more comfortable during their stay. I know children who have spent extended stays at the hospital and unfortunately there will be kids who have to spend their holidays in a hospital room. I'd love to host this fundraiser to help the hospital in their goal of making that stay as pleasant as possible. So from now until the end of the year I will be selling photo calendars (featuring art by yours truly) and all profits from the sales will go to American Family Children's Hospital Child Life Program.
Calendars are the perfect holiday gift because:
#1. Everyone needs a couple.
#2. For the person who has everything, they take up only wall space.
#3. You will use it all year long (literally).
#4. They are useful and pretty!
Calendars will be $15 which is about the same as what you can get them for at the calendar kiosks at the mall. And since all profits from the sales go to the hospital, your $15 will go A LOT farther. To order your calendar and to purchase your calendar gifts, click here. I'll be posting the photos that will go in the calendar at the beginning of November so you can get an idea of what the photos will look like.
Thank you so so much for helping me to support this amazing cause!

"Working with Kait has been absolutely wonderful! My husband and I wanted unique, artistic photographs and we were certainly not disappointed. Kait was very flexible in all aspects of her photography business, even taking our engagement photos in 20 degree weather with my horse! Photography on our wedding day was so well organized and I felt as though she captured my vision completely. It was a pleasure working with her and my husband and I plan on continuing to use Kait as a photographer for future photo sessions!"

I am so excited to announce the newest service in the Photography by Kait repertoire, photography registries! Designed specifically with brides & grooms, new parents & parents to be, and basically anyone who has a need for good photography. The new registries allow you to share your big milestone with your family and friends in a whole new way. Wedding couples, instead of filling your wedding registry with a bunch of appliances and dishes you may or may not use (gravy boat anyone?), why not give your guests the option of giving you one of the most meaningful gifts they possible could, your wedding photographs! Mommas-to-be, without having to register for them, you will end up with a closet full of clothes because, let's face it, baby clothes are just too adorable. How about offering a gift your family can give that will not only be useful for you in the future, but will allow them to skip that shopping spree inspiring trip to the baby boutique and help you record your baby's milestone portraits? And it's not limited to just weddings and babies, but would also work well for Seniors, families, other events, whatever you might be interested in. It is also especially helpful for guests who don't live nearby to contribute as well. To see some example registries, you can go here (babies) and here (weddings). Ignore the cheesy test name, I just wanted to be able to launch something viewable so you know what your guests would be seeing. If you are interested in using this new feature or have any questions, feel free to contact me through my page or email at [email protected].
PhotographybyKait.com Registry launch pages (they are kind of empty right now since this is new.)
Since this year celebrates the 5 year anniversary of Photography by Kait, I wanted to do a little promotion to celebrate. So, to thank my current, loyal customers and to help welcome new customers, I am offering a special referral promotion for the remaining 5 months. Get 10% off a future session when you refer a new booking customer, who will also receive 10% off their session! You can even combine up to 5 referals in discounts. So if you know 5 people who could use some fun photos, send them my way. And if they book a session with me, you could end up with HALF OFF your future session! A deal for you, a deal for your friends, and I get to help more people to document their wonderful memories, everybody wins!
If you have any questions on the promotion or want to book a session, feel free to contact me through my contact page or email me at [email protected]. You can also find me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/photographybykait. Make sure to "Like" my page to stay current on more great promotions. Summer is a busy time, and fall and "back to school" aren't much better, so make sure to contact me right away with your desired time so we can schedule the time best for you.
Happy Easter All!
I don't know about you but I am looking at a super exciting, busy weekend ahead of me! I have my second wedding of the season this afternoon, followed by a quiet evening with the family and artistically packing easter baskets after the girls go to bed, knowing those perfectly assembled baskets will be ripped apart in the morning.
While I was thinking about my weekend full of fun family time, I realized that I very inconveniently for you wonderful customers set the end date for my promotion on Easter. Holidays make things really hectic sometimes and I would hate to have someone miss out because of my poor timing. So, I will be extending the online booking promotion for another week! If you book online between now and April 7th, you can save $35 on your portrait session. So far the deal has been awesome, thank you to everyone who has participated!
If you are interested in booking, feel free to contact me at [email protected] so we can set up a date and time.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kait
Just a little reminder that there's just a little over 2 weeks left in the early online booking promotion. Time really flies when you're having fun! As a recap, all you have to do to take advantage of the promotion is pre-book your session for anytime between now and June 1st online by the end of the month. By doing so you'll be able to lock in the discounted price of $90. If you are interested, please contact me and let me know when you are interested in booking for and I can give you instructions on how to complete the transaction. This offer is only open until 3/31/13 so now is the time to book!
One of my favorite holidays is fast approaching, Valentine's Day! Something about all the pink and white lacy hearts everywhere really calls to my girly side. The one thing I am not too fond of is all of the cheesy gifts that the stores sell. Cheap candy, cheap jewelry, cheap stuffed animals in silky boxers... I know it's just a Hallmark holiday but that doesn't mean we need to treat it like one, right? So I decided that I would share a list of some of my favorite, heartfelt gifts to give. There's something for everyone, your kids, your parents, your friends, and of course, your sweetheart!
#1. A scrapbook: Obviously as a photographer I would suggest this one. I have personally done this one myself for my now husband on our first Valentine's day dating. It was a fun way to pass the time on a cold, snowy winter (mch like this one) and it made for a super cute gift. Plus it gives you something to do with all those little trinkets saved from special days out that you keep in the bottom of your purse, or back of your wallet, like movie ticket stubs and the like. And as a special bonus, it is a gift to build upon in the future. Great gift for everyone and something that the kids can help with too if you have them.
#2. A memory box: Similar to the scrapbook but for the less organized love in your life. Depending on the size of the box it allows you to be less limited on what type of trinkets you can throw in. Plus you can still throw in the loose photos and notes that you would normally put in the scrapbook. Also can be used by filling it with little notes about things you have done together and things you would still like to do. A great compromise for those who like the idea of the scrapbook and the convenience of just throwing something in a box!
#3. A handmade card: Personally, I'm not huge on cards. I used to like them but since I was a kid the prices have gotten really inflated. (Now I sound old.) But, there is nothing I love more than getting a hand written note in a card so covered in glitter glue and buttons that I can barely read it. Appropriate for both kids and adults to make and receive. Plus, easy and inexpensive!
#4. Food: So simple. Everyone loves it, everyone needs it. Whether you make a full on candlelit dinner (personally not my forte), bakes something ooey gooey and delicious, or even just pack a special lunch for your special someone, it'll show that person that you were thinking about them. And again, who doesn't like food? Just make sure that you make something appropriate for that person. Nothing says, you should have bought me cheap candy, like serving someone an allergic reaction.
#5. Time: By far the easiest. Just spend some time with them. Do something that you know they love. Go to that restraunt they always want to go to. Go on a walk together and just talk. Play a family board game. If it's long distance, don't send them an email, give them a call. And make sure that it's not while you are running errands. Plan some time to focus on them. No matter what my husband and kids plan for our weekends together, I love it. Because the most inexpensive and most valueable thing we possess is our time.
Hopefully there's something useful in there for you. I know some of it seems obvious but you know that those big box stores make a lot of money on February 13th with last minuters who just need something now. By taking a little time before hand you can really do something special that shows you care. And just an added idea, I know one of the most fun photoshoots I did was on Valentine's Day for an engagement. If you are due for some couple photos, family photos, etc, there's nothing like photos in knee deep snow. :)
If you have any other ideas, feel free to share! I always love new crafty things to try!
Kait
I'm super excited for the upcoming year and all of the new families I will get to meet! I have spent the last *almost* 5 years getting to know and photograph some amazing people. This year, being the beginning of the 6th season, I will be working on some big improvements for Photography by Kait. Some have already been put in place, such as the streamlined delivery and easier ordering options. Hopefully you all have been enjoying the benefits so far. I also wanted to give you all some notice that as of next month (March 1st) my portrait pricing will be going up from $95 to $125. It is a little bit of an increase but it will allow me to better optimize the business and in turn provide you with the best possible service. However, I would like to give you all the opportunity to book at the old pricing for your spring and early summer photos. If you book your session and prepay online from now until April 1st, you can save just over 25% off of the new pricing, which comes to $90 for your one hour session. (For the next month that means approximately 5% off of the old pricing.) Plus you have the convenience of paying online with debit or credit instead of worrying about cash or check. The session can be for anytime between now and June 30th. Please keep in mind that our baby is due in the month of May so sessions booked within that month may require a last minute reschedule.
Please contact me with any questions you have about the new deal or with your booking information. I look forward to hearing from you!

So I spent my Saturday morning at the Wedding Planner and Guide show in Madison and all I can say is that I am SO EXCITED for wedding season this year! So many beautiful new looks and flowers and dresses to get to photograph! If you are getting married this year or next, or even the year after that, I would love the opportunity to photograph your big day and all of the amazing personalized details you bring to it. And even if you are not, I'm curious to know, what are your favorite new wedding trends?
I really love weddings!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to their new year! 2013 holds big things for Photography by Kait and for my family so I am really excited for it. I have added a couple of new things to the site recently. I have updated my portfolio page so there are now actually photos in the portfolios. Sorry for the delay on that! Also I have added an availabilty calendar that I will update as weddings and shoots are scheduled throughout the year. Hopefully that will make it a little easier on you all when you are looking to schedule appointments and events. Also, as some of your may know, we are expecting a new little photography model in the family next May. Because of that I won't be scheduling any weddings for April or May and possibly into the beginning of June. Babies arrive when they choose and I would hate to risk having a wedding on the date Little One makes their arrival. I will however be scheduling portrait sessions up until my due date. Just know that if you schedule in Mid to Late May you may get a last minute call to postpone. Last year I was back at it soon after my daughter was born and will be back to photographing as soon as I can this time around as well. Hoepfully this works out well with all of your portrait schedule needs as well. If you have any questions about scheduling please don't hesitate to ask.
Have a great day!

I'm so excited that the new page is finally up! Besides its new, clean, easy to navigate style, it includes some fantastic new features. Your galleries are now part of the site. You can view, order, and actually download your images for instant delivery right off the site. All still password protected of course, and there is no longer a need to wait for a disk. There are many options for ordering your prints as well. As always, you will receive the printing rights for your images, they are your memories after all. But if you are looking for high quality prints for your special albums, wall art, and gifts, you should definitely check out the new options.
I hope you enjoy the new site. Let me know if you have any questions on the new layout or image download features.
